ENCAVIS successfully commissions its solar park in Borrentin (114 MW), boosting grid-connected capacity in Germany to 700 MW

Hamburg, 5 December 2024 – The Hamburg-based wind and solar park operator Encavis AG has successfully connected its largest German solar park in its own portfolio to the grid. The solar park in Borrentin (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) was built in a short construction period by BELECTRIC, one of the leading EPC service providers in the development, construction and operation of solar power plants in Europe. It will produce around 121 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green electricity per year.

Together with BELECTRIC, the municipality of Borrentin and the landowner, we have realised this mega project with 200,000 installed solar modules on an area the size of 135 football pitches and mastered all challenges in a spirit of partnership. With this step we boost our grid-connected generation capacity from wind and solar energy in Germany to 700 MW, marking a significant milestone towards our ambitious goal of connecting 7 GW of generation capacity to the European grid by 2027,’ says Mario Schirru, CIO/COO of Encavis.

We are proud that, together with our partner Encavis and all those involved, we have succeeded in putting our major project in Borrentin into operation after such a short construction period. In total, we have now installed more than 1.2 gigawatts of solar power in Germany. This means that solar power plants built by BELECTRIC across Germany have roughly the same nominal output as a nuclear power plant,’ explains Thorsten Blanke, Managing Director of BELECTRIC.

The commissioning of the project also marked the start of supply to Allego under the 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The company, which operates throughout Europe, will use the electricity from Borrentin to supply its network of charging stations for electric vehicles.
